This camera deserves “6 Stars” on image quality. I am a Realist when it comes to reviewing a product. First: we must consider the items price, $1995.00. In the “Professional Video Camera World”, That is tantamount to saying a steal!!! I will not go into features and functions, the description of this Camera is given in detail on the product description portion of this page.
Second: Size and weight, Until very recently, a Pro Video Camera came in two sizes, large and super large. The additional problem here is that the general public became used to seeing these monstrosities at events, and broadcasts. Many Video Camera Professionals still look for these monstrosities simply to appease their clients visual expectations. This is the wrong approach, we should stop breaking our backs with our equipment, and instead educate the public of the technological advances that have benefited this industry. The video quality produced by this camera will please the most discriminating client.
Third: You have all this quality being recorded on SDHC cards (my advise is Class 10 30mbs or better). Recording on SDHC cards will be a liberating experience for people who used tape in the past. The Quality is much better. You cannot record over scenes by accident. It can be recorded on again and again, without loss of quality. It is not affected by altitude like hard drive consumer models. If you are thinking of getting this camera, Just get it…..think later!!!

Panasonic has pulled the sheets off two new Lumix Micro Four Thirds cameras: the touchscreen DMC-G2 and the super light G10. Both shoot 720p video, but the G2's bendy, touch control screen makes it a Micro Four Thirds stand out.
The DMC-G2 is the direct descendant of the Lumix G1, the first ever Micro Four Thirds camera. It has a 12.1MP Live MOS sensor and shoots 720p video in AVCHD lite, activated by a dedicated video record button. But its real claim to fame: being the first interchangeable lens system camera with a bendy, twisty touchscreen that can be used to control the camera.
The 3" LCD screen has that 460,000 dot resolution goodness you're looking for and some neat features you might not be expecting. Focus can be adjusted by touching the desired subject on the screen, and photos can be snapped giving it an additional tap. It rotates 180 degrees side to side and tilts 270 degrees up and down—basically you can get to it no matter how you're holding the camera.
Also, it's available in black, red, and blue. Cool.

The G10 is more of an introductory affair, boasting the claim as the lightest micro four thirds to still sport a digital viewfinder. Summary
You’ve read our squawks about the endless search for the perfect two-in-one imaging device (good pictures and videos in a single package). For the most part we’ve concentrated on camcorders since they start out with fine video. Unfortunately other than a few Canons we’ve been generally disappointed with these supposed hybrids since they really can’t grab quality still images. Panasonic is flipping this formula on its head, starting off with a solid camera and adding high-quality movies to the mix. In this instance, the Lumix DMC-ZS3 is the first digicam with AVCHD Lite, a lesser quality codec compared to the AVCHD used in most high-def camcorders. Rather than 1080I, Lite records 720P at 60 frames per second, which in theory should be far better than 1280 x 720 30 fps clips taken by many 2009 cameras. In fact we just reviewed the Canon PowerShot SD970 IS with this feature and weren’t too thrilled with the video results. Now will AVCHD Lite be a heavyweight or a bust? Time to check it out…
Features and Design
The Panasonic ZS3 is the successor to the very popular TZ5, a camera that’s part of the Travel Zoom series because of its compact size and potent 10x optical zoom. With the ZS3, the company bumped the resolution to 10-megapixels from nine and increased the zoom to 12x. Better yet, the already wide-angle Lumix was made wider with an opening focal length of 25mm instead of the TZ5’s 28mm. This lets you take even larger group photos, far more interesting landscapes, portraits and loads more. We’re big fans of wide-angle lenses and this is a real plus. However, we’re not big fans of Wi-Fi enabled digicams such as the reviewed TZ50 which was basically the TZ5 with wireless capability. We thought that camera was O.K. so we were intrigued to learn if the newer version would be an improvement. And, of course, there’s AVCHD Lite video.
The Lumix DMC-ZS3 is a compact (available in silver-, black-, blue or red) digicam measuring 4.1 inches wide, 2.35 high and 1.3 deep; it weighs 7.6 ounces fully loaded. Travelers—and everyone else—will have no issues carrying this one around all day and night. The front is dominated by the 12x Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens which extends when you power up and folds neatly with a built-in lens cover when shut down. Focal length is 25-300mm, an excellent range. Also on the front is a flash, AF Assist lamp, a nice metal accent on the grip and several low-key logos touting various features including Mega OIS (optical image stabilization).
On the top you’ll find a four pinhole speaker, a stereo mic, on/off switch, a shutter button surrounded by the zoom toggle as well as a mode dial. The dial is very basic, offering options for iA (intelligent Auto), Auto which is more like Program AE on other digicams, two options for favorite scene modes (My Scene Mode 1-2), access to all 27 scene modes with SCN and Clipboard which saves images such as maps or train schedules to internal memory for future reference. This is clearly a point-and-shoot with zero options for individual shutter speeds or f/stops. If these tweaks are crucial, look elsewhere. Consider the sophisticated Lumix LX3 we liked so much or the more affordable Canon SX200 IS.

Sure, it has a ridiculous name, but on paper the Bloggie’s got it all – 1080p video capture, the ability to switch resolutions and frame rate, plus a lens attachment that lets you record 360-degree videos. Bells and whistles galore.
Sony thought adding all these bells and whistles would make a difference. They were – as ever – running late to the pocket-camcorder race, but thought strapping on featured-laden running shoes would help it take on its rivals.
Unfortunately, Sony was racing against the Flip Ultra HD (our favourite pocket camcorder) – a much smaller kid sure, but he’d been around the block many times before and was very streamlined. While it couldn’t do jumps and flips like the Sony – nor did it have special running shoes – the Flip was unmistakably on top of his game thanks to a single red button in the middle of his chest which starts the action up quickly and easily.
The Details
And so, like the late-comer Sony in our story, the tardy Sony Bloggie joins last year’s Webbie model in the Japanese giant’s quest to take on the Flip. There are three Bloggie models available, with the MHS-PM5, MHS-PM5K and MHD-CM5 all shooting in 1080p. The CM5 has an optical zoom and flip-out LCD screen, and the only feature that separates the PM5 from the PM5K is the latter’s lens attachment which offers 360-degree filming. This is the model I tested, which costs $US180.
Flip’s pavement-pounder is the Ultra HD, which while only shooting in 720p at 30fps, demands so few choices to be made that it’s a big seller for the market-creating company. It’s the easiest device to use, with the only options being to turn on/off, start/stop recording and zoom in/out.
Sony’s Bloggie has a bewildering choice of features, which will end up being a problem if they want to appeal to anyone other than those who actually know what different resolutions are. It shoots in 1080p at 30fps, 720p at either 60fps or 30fps, and VGA. There are a few limitations with shooting in 1080p though – you can’t use the zoom, there’s no image stabilisation, and you can’t use the 360 degree lens attachment with it.
